Field Crops

Jethro's work in the horticulture sector is aimed to increase the quality and quantity of production and improve the life and working environment of the farmer. These changes are generally based upon the adoption of the right crop based on local conditions and market demands, introduction of new technology, working methods, intensive training and ongoing professional support.

We provide end-to-end, tailor made solutions with a wide variety of experts, who come from various fields and cover all areas from needs identification to post harvesting, and are experienced in improvement using advanced techniques. Our integrative approach and the installation of the full cycle of production improve the chances for success dramatically.

Land cultivating and growing of local crops is a fundamental agricultural activity. It is based on tradition and years of the same way of living, which often makes the farmer unaware of the changes in climate, water availability, market preferences and new technology.

Jethro's work in the horticulture sector is aimed to increase the quality and quantity of production and improve the life and working environment of the farmer. These changes are generally based upon:

The first and most crucial step of any project is the study of the local conditions: soil analysis, climate, cultivation history… Collecting the physical data alongside profound market research enables us to build, together with the farmer, the cultivation plan for the coming years.

The new plan, which often includes changes in the crops, technology, practices and even daily routine, requires long-term education and training. It is aimed to create improvement in the farmer's agronomic skills, while new technologies such as remote sensing, high breed seeds, communication technology, advanced fertigation (fertilization & irrigation) systems etc. are introduced and applied, thus increasing the production.

In selected cases, the project justifies the building of a professional training center, beyond the "on the job" training. This kind of training center provides agricultural and agro-technological guidance to the farmers, demonstrations of crops and agro-technology at model farms, farmers' seminars and field days. Moreover, the training center provides collection, analysis and transitions of climate data to the farmers and enables the operation of applicable R&D in model farms and additional farmers’ fields. The agricultural training team will consist of trainers and extension specialists, consultants, local specialists and assistants.

Under our guidance, the farmer learns the new methods, receives better plants and has the professional support of the farm experts on his land. Through an extensive training program and provision of advanced agricultural inputs and techniques, local farmers will be capable of increasing their yields substantially over the first years of operation. On the other hand, high breed seeds and cultivation techniques will also increase production costs.

Our experts come from various fields and cover all areas from need identification to post harvesting, and are experienced in improvement using advanced techniques.

We provide end-to-end, tailor made solutions that includes the following:

One of the essential areas that needs to be covered when we are dealing with agriculture production is post harvesting - the way the product goes from the field to the shop shelves, starting with the collection methods, through to the selection, packaging and transportation.

The challenge is often not just facing the conservative mentality of the farmer but also the commercial interest of traders or old structures – physical or social. In our project, we challenge these old conceptions, the "this is how my ancestors did it is the best way" dogma that keeps these farmers behind technologically and methodologically, and make the field crops work more efficient and modern.

Making a change in the field of cultivation should be an overall approach from identifying suitable seeds, to farmer training, advanced technology harvesting and post harvesting. The integrative approach and the installation of the full cycle of production improve the chances of success dramatically.
