Smart Village

Strong community -
Successful settlement

Worldwide, the demand for agricultural products is increasing, both in quantitative and qualitative aspects. The challenge of meeting this demand, in a world of fixed nature resources (e.g. soil and water sources) requires a search to increase agricultural production by improving knowledge and technology, and by organizing the production systems in a more efficient manner. In order to do so, the "Smart Village" model puts the village and the farm families at the center. We, in Jethro, see the commitment of the farmer to his land as an asset that guarantees stability and production continuity. We create a complete circle, which supports agricultural production, starting with inputs supply and training, through micro financing, up to the post harvesting and marketing of the products. the farmer, in terms of efficiency-production-profits, will compete successfully with large commercial farms.

The “Smart Villages” model is an innovative rural settlement concept with unique economic and social characteristics. The rationale of this project is based on a strong and sustainable commercial sector linking the small farmer agricultural production with the markets. The type of interaction envisaged between the rural farming communities and the commercial sector is what makes this project unique The Smart Village model is based on the approach that puts the village and the farm families at the center. This approach views the commitment of the farmer to his land as an asset that guarantees stability and production continuity.

This commitment is based solely on a business motive. It leads the farmer to accept seasonal crises as part of life and encourages him to make an extra effort in the following season in order to succeed, rather than abound the land. The main weakness of this traditional structure is the dependence on other "players" that constitute the circles of manufacturing and marketing, alongside the difficulty in integrating new and advanced technologies, and this is what "Smart Village" aim to solve. The “Smart Villages” model is based upon the Israeli Moshav. The "moshav" was created in order to enable families that have no financial resources and no experience in agriculture to settle in remote areas and cultivate the land.

The community, together with the support of the government and other public-political entities, is able to overcome serious financial and economic obstacles. The Moshav community puts the farmer and his family at the core of the production circle and provides him with the full scope of services and means of production.

This new approach provides the farmer with all of his working needs. It guarantees the existence of functioning and encompassing production and marketing circles, and escorts the farmer through the training process and the adoption of new technologies, in such a way that the farmer, in terms of efficiency-production-profits, will compete successfully with large commercial farms. Putting the farmer and his family at the center requires the creation of a complete circle, which supports agricultural production, starting with inputs supply and training, through micro financing, up to the post harvesting and marketing of the products. The farmer no longer stands alone; he is now a part of a complete system that sees his success as its main goal.

We "connect the dots": subsidies and governmental support, alongside management services, micro-finance mechanisms, together with social organizations and self-help groups (SHG). Coordination and management of all these systems and turning them into a stable and secure mechanism, which guarantees the production efficiency of the individual farmer, the adequacy of family income, and the ongoing supply of fresh products to the processing lines and marketing channels.

The success of the SV project will bring new "life" to the rural area. Increases in production and revenues will enhance the well-being of the families, increase the need for working hands, and trigger the development of new businesses and different services from trucks to shops. It is a social-economical platform that allows more farmers to join and can be replicated.

The Indian Smart Village Project

Agrown - Smart Village

Putting the farmer and his family at the center requires the creation of a complete circle which supports agricultural production, starting with inputs supply and training, through micro financing, up to the post harvesting and marketing of the products. The farmer no longer stands alone; he is now a part of a complete system that sees his success as its main goal. In this project we combine diverse forces, and connect the systems, institutions, traditions and customs existing in India in order to create a new advanced system.
